For this video, can you guys guess where I'm at?
I'll give you three seconds.
Three, two, one.
Hiroshima.
This time we've come to Hiroshima, near the bottom of the main island Honshu.
A must visit when coming to Hiroshima is the island Itsukushima, more popularly known as Miyajima.
It is one of Japan's top three scenic sites.
So let's go explore this island and see what it has to offer.
I started off my trip at Hiroshima station and took a 25-minute train ride to Miyajima-Guchi station.
From there is less than a 5-minute walk to the ferry terminal, where you will be board to go to the island.
There are two competing ferry companies operating from the spot.
JR Miyajima Ferry rides takes 10 minutes and both cost 180 yen one way.
There are also other special passes if you want to ride the ropeway on the island.
The ferries also come very frequently every 10 to 15 minutes.
Once again on the island, you may feel like you have been taken back in time
and that because strict measures are taken to ensure that the island retains a classical Japanese Edo era look.
I've just arrived on the island and I found myself a friend.
It is quite sad, the horns were cut off.
Have a nice day.
I'm going to go explore the island now, bye.
Any reaction.
The deer wonder throughout this island freely and even though they do look very cute.
Just be careful they don't take your belongings, especially if you have food.
Now, let's go see the most popular sight on this island.
And the best and only way to explore the island is on foot.
So now I'm going to head up to shrine gate.
From look, there are many people there, looks like ants.
Miyajima has a long history as a holy site of Shinto.
The most powerful man in Japan during the end of the Heian Period selected the island as the sight of his clans family shrine.
The Itsukushima shrine.
The shrine and its twenty gates, a unique for being built over water.
During high tide and even looks like it's floating on the sea.
I came during the low tide, so I wasn't able to see the water covering the shrine.
However if you want to see that, make sure to check out the tide schedules before coming.
So when it's low tide, you can actually walk all the way out there.
And see the shrine up here.
Next is lunch time.
There are a lot of shops and food stalls on the island.
But I recommend trying out the specialties of Miyajima, like the oysters.
Oyster farming goes back around 450 years in Hiroshima and about three hundred and thirty years in Miyajima.
So, they are known to be very tasty on this island.
But what the island is most well known for is their maple leaf shaped castella.
There are many different types of fillings to choose from.
However the most original one is red bean.
There are many shops that sell this on the island and you can see how it's made as well.
What I find really intriguing about Japan is that even though you are in the same country,
each area you go to have their own regional uniqueness and specialties.
So I was really curious about how this maple manju idea came about
and decided to ask one of the locals about the story behind it.
In the olden days, there was a tea shop in Miyajima.
A girl served tea for a customer and was complimented that she had hands like maple leaf.
That's how it came about.
Cute girls have plump hands right.
Not like us old ladies who have wrinkly hands.
Ahh, I see that's the story behind the maple leaf castella.
Just a short walk from the shopping street, there is a bridge at the bottom of the mountain which we will go to.
You can also go to the top of Mt. Misen via the ropeway or there are many hiking tracks you can hike up.
Ten minutes walk, seven if you run a little!
The island has things to see every corner you go.
So it's nice to just have a wander around and soak up the atmosphere.
There is also an aquarium and museum you can visit on the island.
But now we're going to head over to the most famous temple on the island Daisho-In.
It's one of the most important temples of Buddhism and at the base of the temple I saw the longest trail of Buddha statues I have ever seen in my whole life.
Senjokaku describes the spaciousness of the building as well as in fact the approximately the size of 1000 tatami mats.
Right next to it, there is also a five-storied pagoda that attract more attention from the tourists.
Before you leave, there are also many souvenirs you can buy.
But just remember, most of the shops on the island close in the evening.
I recommend spending at least a day here.
So you can explore the island slowly.
And if you want to experience a different side to the island after the tourists have gone and the lanterns are lit up,
then I suggest staying the night at one of the traditional Japanese ends on the island.
This is my filming setup.
So there were no spare lockers in the station.
So I have to carry this suitcase all around on the beach on the sandy beach.
And then I've got my tripod and I've got my bag.
But come on, why no lockers.
You are sick of people, tapping you.
That's why you escape to the beach.
Do you want to say bye to everyone.
I hope you guys enjoyed the video and let's say bye.
Bye.
拜。
Bye.
拜。
You are saying bye, right.
