Part 1：选词填空真题第二套

选词填空是英语四级考试阅读中的题型之一，主要考查对上下文的理解以及对词汇应用能力。选词填空的篇幅在250~300词左右，要求考生从给出15个的单词中，选出10个填到文中的空格处。

题型介绍

To get a sense of how women have progressed in science, take a quick tour of the physics department at the University of California, Berkeley.
若想了解女性在科学进步上的成就，只需到加州大学伯克利分校物理系走访一下便可略知一二。
This is a storied place, the 36 of some of the most important discoveries in modern science that started with Ernest Lawrence's invention of the cyclotron (回旋加速器) in 1931.

This is a storied place, the 36 of some of the most important discoveries in modern science that started with Ernest Lawrence's invention of the cyclotron (回旋加速器) in 1931.
这是个传奇之地，现代科学史上的很多重要发明均在此地诞生，如1931年劳伦斯发明的回旋加速器。
【思路】：在the与of 的双重限定之下，空格处可判断填名词。同时，主谓宾加逗号This is a storied place, 后接的名词，是同位语表解释，即可判断空格的词应该与place同意。名词选项中，site 地点最为贴切。

That 要看先行词
注意本句中的that，在选词填空题中，that 后必填动词，那么填动词的哪种形式（do/does/did) 需要看先行词判断。如本句中，先行词为discoveries 复数，又是过去发生的事，所以that后的动词是started. 虽然本篇没有在此处设考点，但同学们一定要掌握此种解题方法。

【思路】：were 作为be动词，其后肯定填表语形容词，那么37空词性已判断出来，接着从上下文找寻最贴切的词义。
【思路】：先看38空，exhibits为名词，根据大法“名词后填分词”，句意判断此处为honoring, 尊敬，纪念。
【思路】：39空在逗号之后，敏锐地想到去观察逗号前的句子，发现主谓宾都齐全，根据大法（三）什么都不缺，就把副词填，符合条件，此处一定是个副词，发现副词列表中，virtually （事实上的）有表示结论的意思，就是它了。再回头看37空，根据句意判断，大多数都是男性面孔，那么female faces 一定是相反，稀少罕有了，于是rare成为了正确选项。

【思路】a 后跟名词display, 其前一定是被形容词修饰，于是确定40为形容词，从主题突出女性的成就判断，楼上的展示一定与楼下的展示不同，different 是正确答案。
【思路】41空在and之前，保八大法（六）告诉我们“and ,or 语法平行，内涵平衡，” 只能填与学生students 词性和含义相似的词语，那么members 就是争取选项了。
【思路】42空，whose后面有名词，当做独立的句子来看，看主谓宾是否齐全，有主语research, 有宾语everything, 看来就差个谓语了，在动词分组里找，发现covers,包含涉及最为准确。研究领域包含了从宇宙力学，到微观量子。(法七：填个动词就OK)

每年伯克利都会将物理系的女性博士生送到顶级学府进修。这令Shapiro optimistic既乐观又冷静。
"I believe things are getting better," she says, "but they're not getting better as 45 as I would like."
她说：“我相信事态会越来越好，但进展也不会如我所期待的那样的快速。”
【思路】：but also 其实也就是not only的平行结构，所以，按照方法（六）注意选取与optimistic 语法和含义上相似的词语，realistic现实的成为了正确选项。
【思路】：45空，普通语法题，as as 结构中间只能接形容词或副词，从would like 判断，修饰动词的只能是副词了。结合上下文判断，快速地fast为正确选项。
