Okay. So now let's take a business example of how we can be diplomatic using the word "not" instead of a harsher more negative adjectives, okay? Just one second.

Okay. So let's say that somebody offers to meet you at a certain time but you find that time inconvenient,
假设某人提出在哪个时间点与你见面，但是你发现这个时间不太方便，
so instead of saying that time is inconvenient, you could say that time is not convenient.
你不应说这个时间“inconvenient”，你可以说这个时间“not convenient。”
It sounds a little bit milder, it sounds a little bit more approachable and more like you can solve the problem where you put it that way, okay?
听起来要稍微温和些、更加容易接受些，这样说听起来会更像是你可以解决这个问题。
Let's say somebody has an idea at a meeting and you really think that idea is very stupid but if you were to say that,
假设在会上有人提出一个想法，你觉得这个想法实在非常愚蠢，但是如果你这么说出来，
of course that would create a lot of bad vibes between you and the other person, so instead of saying, your idea is stupid,
当然会产生一些不好的氛围，所以你不会说你的想法很愚蠢，
you could say, I don't think that idea is very smart because it may lead to some problems. So you're expressing the same basic thought but in a more approachable manner, okay?
而是说，我觉得你的想法不是那么巧妙，可能会引发一些问题。这样说的话，你就是以一种更容易接受的方式表达了同样的意思。
Let's follow, somebody puts forward a proposal at a meeting and you find you think that that proposal is really quite useless
假设某人在会上提出一个建议，你认为这个建议没什么用
but if you were to say that again it would be difficult in terms of your relationships with others,
但是如果你直接这么说出来，会再一次造成你与他人之间不好的局面，
so you might want to say, I find that proposal is not very useful, I think your proposal would not be very useful, okay?
因此你可以说，我认为这个建议不是那么有用，我认为你的建议不是那么有用，明白了么？
See how we're changing it by using "not" plus a positive adjectives, all right?

One last example, let's say someone's approach to a problem to a situation, you think is very negative,
最后一个例子，假设某人解决某个问题某个局面的方法十分消极，
so instead of saying, your approach is negative, you could say what, your approach is not positive, I find that your approach is not very positive, okay?
你不应说，你的方法很消极，你应该说你的方法不是很积极，我认为你的方法不积极。
This way you're still being honest about what you feel and what you think, we're not asking you to lie about what you think,
这样说的话，你还是对自己感觉和想法诚实已见，我们并不是要你对自己的想法撒谎，
you should express your thoughts and your opinions but you want to do it in a more diplomatic manner, okay?
