According to a sheriff in Ohio on Friday, a gunman shot and killed a new village police chief and then killed two employees in a nearby nursing home, where he later was found dead.

Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp told reporters that the slain police chief, Steven Eric Disario, had been in charge of the Kirkersville Police Department for only about three weeks.

Thorp added that Disario was responding to a report of the gunman, with his last radio communication saying that he had the man in sight.

According to authorities, the gunman has not immediately been identified and police are trying to determine what kind of relationship he had with the nursing home.
