In my sixth and seventh consulates, 28 and 27 BC,

Augustus also

supported poets and prose writers who would help him glorify the Principate and help him raise Rome's moral tone.

He did not pay the writers directly of course because that would be too obvious.

One of these was Quintes Horatius Flacus, Horace of Carpe Diem fame.

Horace is talking of course, about Augustus' victory over Anthony at Actium.

But notice there is no mention of the actual winner,

Marcus Agrippa and notice how he follows the Augustan party line by refusing to talk of it as a civil war.

Instead Horace emphasizes the victory over the ancient Egyptian queen Cleopatra.

So Augustus' victory is not so much that of a Roman over another Roman
