Track one
Daniel – take me on a ‘Cooks Tour’
I started working with Four Seasons eighteen years ago
Working with the company gave me a great opportunity to travel around the world
I worked first in London – spent four years there
Went to Punta Mita in Mexico – was part of the opening of a property in Punta Mita
Thereafter went to South America – Venezuela, Caracas
Post that, travelled to US, spent six years there – worked at the Four Seasons in LA; Miami; Las Vegas
Then it was time to go to China – I spent a couple of years in Shanghai and a couple of years in Beijing before I moved to The Rosewood
The way that you pronounce the names – do you speak Spanish?
I do – I am half Spanish, half Danish
The way you pronounce Caracas – obviously a native Spanish speaker
That would be why you were in Mexico and other places with a Spanish influence
Speaking Spanish has its benefits, like speaking Chinese would
Although after seven years I do not speak the language
I find it very difficult and you have to be committed to a language
I get by with the everyday, common language you need to survive in China
Speaking Spanish will give you the benefit to be available for working in countries where Spanish is needed.
Often in Spanish speaking countries English may not be common – speaking Spanish is necessary if you want to travel to those countries
