Global awareness of the Nanjing massacre was heightened in 1997 by the publication of a book called 'The Rape of Nanking', by Chinese-American author Iris Chang.
1997年美国华裔作家张纯如所著的《南京暴行—被遗忘的大屠杀》一经出版就引发了全球对南京大屠杀的高度关注。
Chang committed suicide in 2004.
而该书作者则于2004年自杀。
