39% of Chinese women suffered from physical domestic violence

Domestic violence issues are traditionally seen by many in China as a private matter, but the first draft of legislation dealing with domestic violence is set to be released following International Anti-Domestic Violence Day on Tuesday.

A report released Monday by the All-China Women's Federation, who met to discuss domestic violence, show that among women between 18-49 years old, 39 percent claimed to have suffered from physical or sexual violence from their partner, and 38 percent suffered mental abuse.
全国妇女联合会于周一公布了一份探讨家暴问题的报告,这份报告显示年龄在18至49岁之间的女性中,有39%声称自己遭受过家暴或性虐待,另外38%称遭受过精神虐待。
The report also showed that only 35 percent of the victims told family members about the violence, and only 7 percent of them called police. The report also said that women who suffer domestic violence are two to three times more likely to commit suicide, and experience depression and miscarriages.
这份报告还显示只有35%的女性将家暴事件告知亲属,只有7%进行报警。另外报告还称遭受家暴的女性会有2至3倍的几率自杀,而且更易经历抑郁及流产。
