A Japanese humanoid robot interacted with visitors to Miraikan, Tokyo's National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, on Wednesday.
Honda's robot, Asimo, claimed to be one of the most advanced robots in the world, however it made some errors in its interactions. It couldn't tell the difference between people raising their hands to ask questions and those aiming their smart phones to take photos.
The robot froze and repeated a programmed remark: who wants to ask Asimo a question? Asimo is able to decipher human silhouettes and gestures and engage in autonomous conversations.
Asimo is connected wirelessly to six censors on the ceiling to discern where a crowd is gathering. It has no voice recognition and responds only to written questions selected from a touch-panel device.
