Prepare Yourself 自己做好准备

A story around campus has it that a student once sent a telegram to his parents reading: "Mom - flunked all courses. Kicked out of school. Prepare Pop."
校园里流传着这样的故事：一个学生一次给父母拍了一份电报，上面写着：“妈妈－我所有功课都不及格，被学校开除。让爸爸做好准备。”
Two days later he received a response: "Pop prepared. Prepare yourself."
两天以后，他收到了回电：“爸爸已准备好。你自己做好准备吧!”

1.prepare
prepare oneself：为某人自己做好准备。
今天我们主要讲prepare用作及物动词时：
a. prepare sth.表示"准备......"，后接名词或代词作宾语。
Our English teacher was preparing the lessons when I came into the office.我进办公室时，我们的英语老师在备课。
b. prepare sb. sth.表示"给......准备......"，也可转换为prepare sth. for sb.。
She prepared us a nice breakfast.（= She prepared a nice breakfast for us.） 她给我们准备了可口的早餐。
c. prepare sb. for sth.表示"使某人对某事有所准备"。
She said so because she wanted to prepare her father for the bad news.她这样说是因为她想使爸爸对那个坏消息有所准备。
d. prepare to do sth.表示"准备做......"。
They were preparing to cross the river when it began to rain.他们正准备过河，突然下雨了。

2.Pop
Pop大写表示爸爸的意思。当然英语中爸爸有很多种表示方式father，papa，dad，daddy等等都可以。
Michael said softly, "That's not how Pop would have played it."
迈克尔柔和他说：“爸爸不会下这样的赌注。”
