Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic started their title match yesterday, but rain stopped the action in Paris. A win for Nadal would give him the most French Open titles in history. If the top-ranked Djokovic takes the crown, he would be the first man to hold all four grand slam titles in 43 years.
Nadal led 2-sets-to-1 but trailed by a break in the fourth set when action got back underway at Roland Garros.
The restart seemed to help Rafa. He broke Djokovic’s serve to tie it at 2, and get back on serve.
The two would then settle into a typical match between the two...long rallies and amazing points. Nadal taking this one off his shoe-strings at the baseline to go up 4-3.
But Djokovic would match Nadal’s intensity. This ace ties the match at 4.
But then with Nadal leading 5-4 in the fourth set, the rains came again. The umpire started surveying the court to see if the match could conitnue—after waiting for about 5 minutes the storm passed.
Djokovic came back to tie it at 5-all, but Nadal grabbed the advantage again with a rally that ended with a clear winner.
Then, Nadal broke Djokovic’s serve and the Serbian double-faulted to give the Spaniard the match. The final score: 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, and 7-5 in the fourth. Nadal makes history, he stands alone with seven French Open championship titles.
