一.dare：vt. 敢，挑战，冒...的风险 vi. 勇于，胆敢 v. aux.胆敢 n. 胆量，挑战
【词义辨析】
dare(普通动词), dare(情态动词),
dare(普通动词)有各种时态形式的变化，第三人称单数现在时要加s，可以和带to或不带to的不定式连用。dare也能表示“挑战”的意思。
He dares to go to Africa alone.
他敢独自去非洲。
Does he dare to tell her?
他敢告诉她吗？
He doesn't dare（to）tell her.
他不敢告诉她。
He dared to go there.
他敢去那儿。
He didn't dare（to） take the risk.
他不敢冒这个险。

dare(情态动词)一般只用于疑问句和否定句中，第三人称单数现在时不加s，无各种时态形式变化。

二.defend：v. 防守，防护，辩护
【词义辨析】
defend, protect, safeguard, guard, shield, shelter, harbour,
defend: 普通用词，指用武力或其它措施使人或物不受损害，消除危险。用作比喻时，指坚持某种行动、决定或意见。
protect: 普通用词，指用某种手段作为防御工具以防危险或伤害。
safeguard: 语气强，指采取积极措施预防可能发生的一切攻击或危险。
guard: 普通用词，指保持警惕以防可能的攻击或伤害。
shield: 语气比protect强，但侧重防止迫在眉睫的攻击或伤害。
shelter: 通常指寻找安全地方躲避风雨或使人免遭危害。
harbour: 贬义词，指隐匿或非法保护、窝藏。
