大白鲨的嘴巴和牙齿是一副功能强大的捕猎工具：猎物从小型鱼类到大型海洋哺乳动物。但研究人员惊奇地发现，小于3米长的鲨鱼仅是外表看起来杀气腾腾。因为其软骨坚硬度和矿物含量都不够。对于大型海洋哺乳动物的致命一咬将会伤害到鲨鱼的下巴。

这一发现或许解释了为什么鲨鱼袭击却少有人丧命--直到它长到相当的大。大白鲨咬杀的恶名比它真实的一嘴可厉害多了。
