【词汇讲解】

1.sustain vt. 承受，支持，经受，维持

如：The court sustained his claim that the contract was illegal.
法庭确认他的要求正当，宣布该合同不合法。

Hope alone sustained him in his struggle.
在奋斗中，只有希望支持着他。

2.frustration n. 挫折，令人沮丧的东西

如：The cat sat in front of the bird cage in an agony of frustration at being so near and yet so far.
猫无可奈何地坐在鸟笼前，眼看着鸟儿近在咫尺，可怎么也够不着。

It's healthier to release frustration than to bottle it up.
受挫折后发泄一通比强忍着对身体有益。

3.contemplation n. 注视，沉思，打算

如：She seemed lost in contemplation.
她似乎已陷入浑然忘我的沉思中。

Each morning the priest spent an hour in quiet contemplation.
每天早晨神父静静地沉思一小时。

4.dwell vi. 居住，存在，冥想，详细阐述

如：Don't dwell on past failures.
不要老是想着过去的失败。

How his words dwell in my mind!
他的一席话在我的脑海里经久难忘。

5.constructive adj. 建设性的，构造上的，作图的

如：I can not figure out why they ridicule this constructive suggestion.
我弄不懂他们为什麽嘲笑这一建设性建议。

It was regrettable that such great issues had to be the thrust and parry of a general election. But at least the debate should be constructive.
如此重大的问题不得不成为大选中人们激烈辩论的议题，这很令人遗憾。可这场辩论至少应该是建设性的。
