A Givenchy black Chantilly lace cocktail dress worn on screen by Audrey Hepburn, has sold for over 97,000 US Dollars.
The haute couture dress, worn by the star in the 1966 movie "How to Steal a Million", was the highest selling item from the Hepburn collection under the hammer at La Galleria in central London.
Kerry Taylor, Kerry Taylor Auctions, said, "The estimate was 15 to 20 thousand pounds. And it's beautiful condition, it's haute couture by Hubert (Givenchy) and she looked fabulous when she wore it in the film, so that's why it went for so much."
The dress was one of several designs by Givenchy up for grabs, including pared-down cocktail dresses, buttery silk tops, beautiful coats and dramatic sweeping gowns made by the legendary French couturier for Hepburn.
An ivory satin wedding dress designed by the Fontana Sisters for Hepburn's marriage to James Hanson in 1952, went under the hammer at over 18 thousand US Dollars. But the dress itself was never used after the engagement fell through.
Other star lots included an Yves Saint Laurent empire-waisted gown in white cotton.
