1. A former police officer was sentenced to life in prison for killing his pregnant girlfriend and their unborn daughter. Bobby Cutts Jr. was spared the death sentence by a jury. Cutts is eligible for parole after 57 years.

4. Conservative columnist, author and TV show host Williams F. Buckley Jr. has died. He was 82. Buckley founded National Review magazine and championed anti-communism and pro-market forces, raising the profile that conservative thought for a generation.
