1. A gunman killed three apparent relatives and a veteran Los Angeles SWAT officer and wounded another officer in the face before police shot him to death. Authorities had been in a long standoff with the man during which his home erupted in flames. Two other officers were wounded in the incident.
2. The Republican race is now down to three. Mitt Romney ended his bid for the White House today and while Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul are still in it. Most say this move wraps up the nomination for John McCain.
3. '…Zero, and liftoff of space shuttle Atlantis.'
The shuttle got up cleanly and safely this afternoon. The crew is set to spend the next week and a half in orbit. The center will spend most of that time installing a new space lab on the International Space Station.
4. Germany's new celebrity has grown its first teeth. Flocke is the baby polar bear that has won the country's heart. She has yet to make her public debut, so people would just have to settle for these photos.
