1. NASA has begrudgingly released information from an unprecedented survey of pilots. The research shows safety problems like near collisions and runway interference occur more often than previously thought. The study had been kept secret. It made concerns that it could hurt airline profits.
2. A US marine will stand trial in the death of 24 Iraqis in 2005. The killings occurred in the town of Haditha after a roadside bomb hit a marine convoy. Staff Sgt. Frank Wuterich faces multiple charges including voluntary manslaughter.
3. The Northeast is ringing in the New Year with another winter storm. More than 12 inches of snow fell across some states including New York and Vermont. The cold and snow are expected to last through the week.
4. Some independent politicians could be considering a late run for the White House. Among them is New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Bloomberg and a handful of other independents will meet in January to discuss a third party bid.
