Investigators say Hamilton opened fire on the Latah County Courthouse late Saturday, killing an officer there before killing another man in a nearby church and taking his own life.

3. Two wayward humpback whales have done an about-face and are headed back toward the Pacific Ocean. The mother and calf have been swimming inland toward Sacramento for about a week before wildlife officials were able to lure them in another direction by playing recordings of other whales.
