Tornadoes rip through four central U.S. states

Flattened homes and scattered debris in the U.S. state of Oklahoma after a massive storm ripped through four central U.S. states on Sunday. Local media said at least one person died here in Shawnee, just outside Oklahoma City. Fist-sized hail, blinding rain and more than two dozen tornadoes were reported in parts of Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas and Illinois. Chuck Walton described the moment one tornado hit.

CHUCK WALTON, HOME DAMAGED BY TORNADO SAYING: "No sooner than we got in the basement, we saw heavy wind and heavy rain and after it subsided we saw that we had sustained quite a bit of damage." Meteorologists had been warning for days that a powerful front was expected to blast through the region, spawning potentially destructive twisters as it made its way north from Texas. The extreme weather is expected to continue into Monday.

North Korea fires two more missiles

More missiles launched from North Korea's coast as tensions continue to escalate. South Korea said its neighbour had fired two short-range missiles into the sea on Monday, making six launches in three days. The North said military exercises were the legitimate right of any country and that it was coping with what it called "mounting war measures from the U.S. and South Korea".

Pyongyang has condemned joint U.S.-South Korean military drills, repeatedly threatening nuclear attacks against both countries. The United Nations Security Council imposed tougher sanctions against North Korea following its third nuclear test in February. Missile launches by the North are not uncommon, but have raised concerns about regional security amid threats from Pyongyang.

Britain's Princes William and Harry open care centre for soldiers

Britain's Princes William and Harry arrive at a new facility that will offer help and support to injured service personnel. The Duke of Cambridge and his brother Prince Harry officially opened the Help for Heroes Recovery Centre at Tedworth House in the west of England. Help for Heroes is building, equipping and running four recovery centres to provide ongoing support for wounded and sick servicemen and women and veterans. The Duke of Cambridge said the centre reflected the huge sense of gratitude felt by the British public to those serving in the armed forces.

DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE SAYING: "When Harry and I, like so many other young men and women, first donned our Help for Heroes wristbands, only six years ago, not even we, as servicemen, could have guessed the scale of the challenges ahead. In 2007 the nation was beginning to wake up to the reality of the debt we owed to its wounded and sick servicemen returning from overseas." Tedworth House is the first centre to open and can accommodate 50 residents, four families and over 150 day visitors.
